Anderson Silva Nothing like the greatest mma fighter of all time to get MMA PEST going again. The “Spider” will have to be careful of Derek Brunson’s KO power. Anderson Silva still holds many records including defending and keeping his UFC Title longer than any fighter in UFC history. MMA PEST predicts our aging hero will win by knockout in dramatic fashion. In his prime Silva made excellent mixed martial artist look bad. Hopefully we will see these skills again. Power, Endurance, Speed, Technique. The Spider is a PEST. Don’t pay attention to the 33-8-1 and 16-4 records.
UFC Fight Night 77 features the rubber match between Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort. Both MMA fighters are highly skilled with loads of experience. Vitor Belfort has a 24-11-0 MMA record and is 13-7 with the UFC. Vitor is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Dan Henderson sports a 31-13-0 MMA record and is 8-7 with the UFC.
Henderson beat Belfort in 2006 at PRIDE 32. Belfort beat Henderson with a headkick almost exactly two years ago on November 9, 2013 at UFC Fight Night 32. The loss was “Hendos” first loss stoppage by strike which is remarkable. Also remarkable it was the third headkick victory in a row for Belfort.
Dan Henderson was the last Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion and the last Welterweight and Middleweight PRIDE Fighting Champion. Wow – and Henderson was the UFC 17 Middleweight Tournament winner.
There were many other accomplishments for both mixed martial artist. Vitor Belfort lost his last fight with UFC Champion Chris Weidman. Dan Henderson won his last fight with Tim Boetsch by Knockout within the first thirty seconds of the first round.
MMA PEST is torn in this showdown of likely two future Hall of Famers. Vitor Belfort is faster which goes highly into consideration along with his technical ground skills.
However, Dan Henderson finds a way to win with his vast experience and often superior game plan. Methodical, Technique, Power is Hendo – MMA PEST predicts a win for Dan The Man Henderson.
Also, Glover Teixeira 23-4 MMA and 6-2 UFC to defeat Patrick Cummins 8-2 MMA and 4-2 UFC.
UFC 192 Cormier vs Gustaffson
UFC 192 is set to go October 3rd at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The Co-Main Event of Champion Johny Hendricks vs Tyron Woodley has been canceled. Hendricks had a hard time making weight which in turn probably contributed to Johny getting sick. MMA PEST was leaning toward picking an upset like Uriah Hall though we did not get the post written.
Daniel Cormier vs Alexander Gustaffson is the Main Event.
The Light Heavyweight Fight features Cormier who sports a 16-1-0 record and Alexander Gustaffson who is 16-3-0. Cormier is the favorite but Gustaffson is a talented mixed martial artist. The key to Gustaffson winning is using his reach to effectively keep Cormier away from his inside. MMA PEST believes Daniel Cormier will eventually get inside and finish Alexander Gustaffson by TKO or knockout.
Rashad Evans vs Ryan Bader
This is the MMA fight MMA PEST is most interested in. Rashad Evans has a 19-3-1 record and Ryan Bader is 19-4-0. Evans is one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time. He is one of the only fighters to give Jon Jones any kind of serious trouble and may have won if not for Jones reach advantage. The problem. Rashad has not fought for two years and Bader seems to be in his prime and has been much more active.
Rashad Evans was a UFC Champion and if he is even somewhat close to his best form it will be enough to get him the victory. In his prime Rashad had all the tools – Power, Speed, Technique and a natural elusive style. The “if” is the big question. MMA PEST is believing Rashad Evans will still have what it takes to defeat Ryan Bader in a decision – a decision only because of ring rust.
Ruslan Magomedov vs Shawn Jordan
Ruslan Magomedov is 13-1-0 and Shawn Jordan is 18-6-0. Magomedov is the favorite but MMA PEST is picking the underdog Jordan. This is another intriguing match which Ruslan can win, however MMA PEST is counting on the speed and unpredictability of Jordan.
Julianna Pena vs Jessica Eye
Julianna Pena 6-2-0 and is the favorite in this UFC fight against Jessica Eye who is 11-3-0. MMA Pest is going with Pena also and she is mad and determined that she hasn’t got the recognition she believes she deserves.
UFC 191 Johnson vs Dodson
UFC 191 is September 5th at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two Main Events are current UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson and the heavyweight matchup between Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski.
Johnson vs. Dodson
Champion Demetrious Johnson sports a 22-2-1 MMA record and a 10-1-1 UFC record. He is on virtually everyone’s top 5 pound for pound MMA fighters list – and for good reason. Demetrious has accumulated six straight successful title defenses. He wants to break Anderson Silva’s record of ten successful title defenses. He also has the most significant strikes landed in UFC Flyweight history with 669.
Mighty Mouse faces the strong and capable John Dodson who has a 17-6 MMA record and a 6-1 UFC record. Johnson and Dodson faced each other in January of 2013 where Dodson knocked down DJ twice in the 2nd round which was the first time that ever happened. Demetrious went on to dominate the 5th round almost ending the fight before the final horn. The current champ called Dodson “very tough” acknowledging it was a hard fought victory.
This is an exciting match and even more so when you consider John Dodson knocked out Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw in the first round of the Ultimate Fighter. Again, Dodson is very capable of winning this fight but has had less action than Mighty Mouse since their last fight in 2013. For this reason and Johnson’s relentless agressiveness in every asset of the fight game, MMA PEST predicts Demetrious Johnson retains his Championship Belt with a successful 7th title defense.
Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski
Wow, this is a much anticipated match for several reasons. Frank Mir has a 18-9 MMA record and UFC 16-9 record. Andei Arlovski has a 24-10-1 MMA record and a 13-4 UFC record. Both MMA fighters are former UFC Heavyweight Champions with Frank Mir losing his title after an absense fron the Octagon because of a motorcycle accident in 2004.
The UFC decided on having an Interim Heavyweight Championship fight between the two top contenders which were Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia. The mathup took place in February 2005 with Arlovski winning in just 47 seconds of the first round. Andei “Pitbull” Arlovski is tied with Cain Velasquez for the most KO/TKO’s in UFC Heavyweight history with 9. He is also one of only four fighters in UFC history to win by both submission and KO in the first round under 60 seconds since UFC 28. He is fast, has excellent boxing skills, a vicious right hand and tremendous submission defense talent.
Former Champion Frank Mir has the most wins in UFC Heavyweight history with 16 and ANdrei is 2nd with 13. Mir is tied with the 4th most wins in UFC history of any division. Frank is also the only UFC fighter in history to have 3 submission victories under 60 seconds.
Both mixed martial artist are coming off impressive consecutive wins. Frank Mir has vastly improved his stand-up and boxing skills but MMA PEST feels it will not be enough for the seasoned stand-up skill set of Andrei Arlovski. Also, his ability to keep Mir from getting him to the ground should play a big part in this fight. Mir has always been known as a world class submission artist so if he can get Andrei down it could turn out different. Win – Andrei Arlovski with a chance to fight for the Championship.
MMA PEST predicts Anthony Johnson will defeat Jimi Manuwa in a Light Heavyweight match. Johnson had 9 straight wins with 7 by KO before his last lost to Daniel Cormier. Johnson has fought overall better talent including a KO victory over the dangerous Alexander Gustafsson in the first round. Anthony Johnson has a 19-5 MMA record and a 10-5 UFC record. Jimi Manuwa has a 15-1 MMA record and a 4-1 UFC record.
The other Light Heavyweight match features Jan Blachowicz 18-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC vs. Corey Anderson 5-1 MMA and 2-1 in the UFC. Most MMA fans see this as a close match-up. MMA PEST agrees with the nod going to Blachowicz. This could be a tremendous battle.
Typing strawweight seems odd but here we go. Paige VanZant sports a 5-1 MMA and a 2-0 UFC record. She faces Alex Chambers who has a 5-2 MMA and a 1-1 UFC record. Paige, at 22 years old, is the youngest competitor to fight in UFC 191. She is being billed as a possible next star in the UFC and MMA PEST predicts she will live up to that potential in this fight.
UFC Fox 16 Chicago, Illinois
The UFC is putting on a show at The United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The Main Event features current Bantamweight Champion T.J. Dillashaw in a rematch with Renan Barao. Dillashaw upset Barao May 24, 2014 in the 5th round but was soundly winning before the stoppage. Since the victory the champ defeated Joe Soto with a head kick Knockout also in the 5th round. Dillashaw is very dangerous to the end of the fight. He is also the ONLY Ultimate Fighter Reality Series fighter that did not win the shows tournament but still went on to win a UFC Championship Belt. Dillashaw sports an 11-2-0 record.
Renan Barao has a 33-2-0 record and his takedown defense is rated the highest in UFC history. Barao is being picked by very few MMA fans and MMA fight analysts. MMA PEST is going out on a limb because of Renan Barao’s vast experience and a hunch – Barao to defeat Dillashaw and get his Championship Belt back. Both fighters should have excellent endurance. The rubber rematch would be something to look forward to.
Other Main Card Predictions
Meisha Tate has a 16-5 MMA record and a 3-2 UFC record but is on a three fight UFC win streak. MMA PEST predicts she will defeat Jessica Eye. Edson Barboza sports a 15-3 MMA record and a 9-3 UFC record. He is the only UFC fighter to accomplish a K.O. from body, head and leg kicks. Barboza faces Paul Felder who is only 1 of 3 UFC fighters to win by K.O. with a spinning backfist. Felder has a 10-0 MMA record and is 2-0 in the UFC. This match could go either way but MMA PEST is going with the more UFC battle tested Edson Barboza.
In another exciting matchup Joe Lauzon, 24-10 MMA – 11-7 UFC, faces Takanori Gomi 35-10 MMA – 4-5 UFC. Lauzon has the most fight night bonuses in UFC history with 13. He also has the most stoppage wins in UFC Lightweight history with 10. MMA PEST is going with Joe.
The Chuck Norris “Heroes Among Us” Gala is an annual event which raises funds for Kickstart Kids. This years event on May 1st is in Houston with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and former Navy Seal and Lone Survivor co-author Marcus Luttrell as special guests. Kickstart Kids is a fantastic program that helps keep youth out of trouble through the discipline of martial arts training. Now in some 11 Dallas Metroplex and 26 Houston Metroplex schools, Norris has a goal to see the highly successful program throughout Texas.
Michael T. McSpadden, a criminal district judge for 21 years said:
Kickstart is by far the most effective program I have ever seen. This is after seeing first hand the overwhelming increase in gang activity and youthful violent crime.
A blackbelt named Eric said Kickstart saved his life. He is one of thousands of lives who have been rescued from drugs, violence, hopelessness, imprisonment or even death. Hopelessness because many of the youths in the Kickstart program come from impoverished lives which have been miraculously turned around.
Youths in great numbers report an increased confidence level, increased grades, talents discovered, skill and a new found respect for authority when enrolled in the Kickstart Kids program.
Nothing like one of the, if not greatest UFC MMA fighters of all time to get MMA PEST going again. Former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva faces Nick Diaz On Saturday, January 31st. The MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will host what is one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history.
The UFC 183 Main Event features Anderson Silva who sports a MMA record of 33 wins and 6 losses and a UFC record of 16 wins and 2 losses. Silva’s only defeats in the UFC came at the hands of current UFC Champ Chris Wiedman. The “Spider” has the most consecutive title defenses in UFC history with 10. He also has the most consecutive wins in UFC history with 16.
Only Georges St-Pierre (19) and Matt Hughes (18) have more UFC wins than Silva. Anderson Silva also has the most stoppage victories in UFC history with 10 which is a telling figure of his superiority. Can you a imagine a fighter so technically skilled and popular that he only fights in the Main Event – or almost always. The “Spider” has fought 17 of his 18 appearances in the Main Event.
Nick Diaz sports a 26 win 9 loss MMA record and a 7 win 6 loss UFC record. Diaz had an impressive victory over the legendary BJ Penn at UFC 137 but many believe that would never have happened in Penn’s prime. Nick Diaz last 2 fights were losses. G.S.P. overwhelmed Diaz on March 16, 2013 at UFC 158 and Carlos Condit defeated Diaz on February 4, 2012 at UFC 143.
MMA PEST Prediction
Anderson Silva also holds the UFC record for most KO’s with 17. MMA PEST predicts Silva will make it 18 knockouts defeating Nick Diaz in the 3rd round only because of ring rust. But – then again ANYTHING can happen and both warriors have speed. However, the Power, Speed and Technique of the “Spider” has been in a class of its own.
UFC 182 Jones vs. Cormier
The much anticipated MMA fight between current Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and the undefeated Daniel Cormier could surprise many. Both athletes are so skilled in mixed martial arts that the fight may not last long. Then again it this very skill set could make the fight go 5 rounds with both fighters great defensively as well as offensively. Jon Jones has a record of 20 wins with only 1 loss and Daniel Cormier has 15 wins and no losses.
MMA PEST is going with Jon Jones to defeat Daniel Cormier within 3 rounds. Anything can happen but Jon Jones is almost a freak of nature. The champs extraordinary reach and quality of competition were the deciding reasons for this prediction. One strike can end it all which Cormier has the ability to do but it will be no easy task.
Las Vegas, Nevada will see fireworks with this one and hats off to the UFC for lining up another great fight card at the MGM Grand Arena.
The UFC is putting on an intriguing MMA Main Event in Las Vegas July 5th. This matchup features Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida.
Weidman defeated Anderson Silva, one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time twice. He is undefeated at 11-0 and 7-0 in the UFC. Chris Weidman is very talented with world class wrestling and power. His timing is sensational and he will need it against Machida.
MMA Pest believes Weidman is a confident, skilled mixed martial artist who planned and practiced on how to defeat Anderson Silva – it wasn’t luck.
Lyoto Machida is 21-4 and 13-4 in the UFC. He could very well be 23-2 or 22-3 with bad judging in two of his fights. Machida got the best of Rampage and Phil Davis just last August.
Some of “The Dragon’s” victories include the likes of Hall of Famer Randy Couture, former champion Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva. Thiago was undefeated before facing one of the greatest – Lyoto Machida.
MMA Pest predicts a new Middleweight Champion to be crowned, Lyoto Machida and see it going the distance.
Las Vegas, Nevada will showcase UFC 173 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena May 24, 2014. There are two Main Events with one for the Bantamweight Title held by Renan Barao. Barao is 34-1-0 and on the pound for pound list as one of the greatest in all of Mixed Martial Arts. He will face T.J. Dillashaw who sports a 10-2-0 MMA record. MMA PEST predicts Renan Barao will win with the fight not going the distance.
Dan Henderson vs. Daniel Cormier
Dan “Hendo” Henderson brings a 30-11-0 MMA record to one of the most anticipated Mixed Martial Arts battles in history. Dan “The Man” will go to war with the undefeated Daniel Cormier who is 14-0-0. Henderson is a former Pride and Strikeforce Champion and has fought many of the greatest fighters. He defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua a few short weeks ago in March. The one goal remaining and eluding Dan Henderson has been the UFC Championship belt.
MMA PEST wants him to have it very badly. However, Henderson had 3 losses in a row to Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans. Then when appearing to be losing to “Shogun” he landed a very well timed punch to earn a victory. He also has gassed at the end of some fights which will be bad news against the younger and faster Cormier. MMA PEST predicts a TKO win for Daniel Cormier in the 3rd round when Henderson is exhausted. Dan Henderson can never be counted out though because of his extreme power. The winner is virtually guaranteed a title shot against UFC Champion Jon Jones.
Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Ellenberger
Robbie Lawler sports a 22-10-0 MMA record and meets Jake Ellenberger who has a 29-7-0 record. Both fighters have the power to end the match at any second. This is a fight to watch with on paper no man having a big advantage over the other. MMA PEST predicts Ellenberger will win by knockout in this Welterweight challenge. Why? His aggressive style combined with his power.
Jamie Varner vs. James Krause
MMA PEST predicts Jamie Varner who is 21-9-1 will defeat James Krause who has a 20-5-0 MMA record. This is a Lightweight UFC fight that is also on the Main Card. Varner should start climbing the UFC ladder again with a victory here.
Takeya Mizugaki vs. Francisco Rivera
In a battle of the Bantamweights, Takeya Mizugaki has a 19-7-2 MMA record and faces Francisco Rivera who brings a 10-2-0 record to UFC 173. MMA PEST predicts the more experienced Mizugaki will win by decision.
